Dr. Wandzel is also a board-certified plastic surgeon. While treating patients with facial trauma, he became interested in plastic surgery as a means to help patients feel "normal" physically and emotionally. His attention to detail when repairing disfiguring facial traumas became a strong asset as a plastic surgeon. Whether the procedure is elective or following trauma, his goal is to restore and/or enhance each patient's natural appearance to a level they are comfortable with.
Each cosmetic surgery is a highly individualized procedure. Dr. Wandzel meets with you before and after the procedure at length to determine your goals and budget options.
Cosmetic services offered include:
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure used to correct a nasal deformity or a dissatisfaction with your appearance. It is used to restore nasal function and appearance following trauma, abnormal shape, growth, or diseases such as cancer.
Blepharoplasty is used to improve the appearance of "baggy" or "droopy" skin around the eyes, and can often result in improvements in peripheral vision. Excess skin and/or fat deposits around the eye are trimmed or repositioned to create less bulk around the eye, giving it a cleaner, more youthful appearance.
Patients often refer to otoplasty as "getting your ears pinned back." However, otoplasty can be useful for a variety of situations. Ears can be brought back to lie closer to the head, but can also be used to correct misshapen cartilage or to decrease the size of disproportionately large ears.
Smoothing wrinkles, lifting sagging skin, and a more youthful appearance are often the goals of a facelift. A properly executed facelift will give a natural appearance that boosts self confidence. Finding the right surgeon who can safely meet your needs is imperative.
Removal of excess fat can help contour the face to a more desirable appearance. Facial liposuction can be used to decrease a "double chin" or to minimize "jowls."
Ear lobe repair may be needed after a traumatic injury, such as an earring being pulled and the ear lobe being torn. Repair of the ear lobe is done carefully to minimize additional scarring, and can often minimize the appearance of existing scars. Ear re-piercing is also offered in our office after the ear lobe has sufficiently healed.
Dr. Wandzel can remove and biopsy many different types of head and neck lesions in his office. More complicated cases can be completed safely in the hospital operating room under heavier anesthesia. He routinely removes moles, warts, cysts, skin cancers, and lipomas (fatty tumors).
Chemical peels and dermabrasion are techniques used to rejuvenate the facial appearance and smooth the surface of the skin. Glycolic Acid is one example.
"Fillers" are used to restore fullness to areas that have become sunken or depressed. This is often used to increase the fullness of the lips or to make a scar even with the surrounding skin.
Scar revisions can be completed to decrease the visibility of facial scars. A variety of techniques based on the individual case will be used - from fillers that can be injected into the scar, to surgical removal of scar tissue to create a neater, smaller scar appearance.
